Immigrant Connection will have an upcoming Shadowing Experience in Grand Rapids, Michigan from May 22-26, 2017. This IC Shadowing Experience will be hosted at Immigrant Connection at City Life Church and will bring together City Life’s 2 DOJ Accredited Reps (Katie White, IC Site Leader and DOJ Accredited Rep and Abby Cote, DOJ Accredited Rep), along with Jim Wood (IC Site Leader and DOJ Accredited Rep) and Zach Szmara (IC National Director, Site Leader, and DOJ Rep). Between the 4 IC Shadowing Leaders at this event there is a combined 8+ years of immigration legal services experience leading recognized church-based sites.
This experience will be open to 8 total participants in order to keep our shadowing ratio to 1 leader per 2 participants. There is no preferred order of education/training and experience/shadowing. If you have already completed training then shadowing is your next step, but you can also choose to shadow before you attend a training event.
The cost of the IC Shadowing Experience is $120 per day (includes experience, supplies, snacks/coffee/drinks, and lunch) or $600 for the week (plus transportation, room, and board). Immigrant Connection’s approach to the shadowing experience is unique in that it offers 2 distinct outcomes: 1. Hands-on immigration legal services practice (including intakes, consultations, filling out forms, filing cases, case review, etc) and 2. Program management experience (including office set-up, marketing, community outreach, creation of office paperwork/checklists, etc.). A nonrefundable deposit of $200 as well as a recommendation from IC, The Wesleyan Church, or TIA is required to sign-up. For more information contact Gloria Lopez at email@example.com. After registration, we will send information concerning recommended lodging choices and transportation options.
